If you live in Northamptonshire and are feeling stressed, low, or just want to get active, there is a huge network of support right on your doorstep. You don't have to deal with things alone.

Here is a breakdown of the best free and confidential resources for young people (generally ages 11–25) across the county.

🧠 Mental Health Support

Northamptonshire has a unique partnership called the REACH Collaborative, meaning five major local charities work together to help you. Depending on where you live, there is a specific team for you:

  • Northampton (NN1–NN7): The Lowdown

    • Offers: Free counselling, LGBTQ+ support groups, and a drop-in Wellbeing Café. They also help with sexual health (free condoms/testing).

  • Wellingborough & Wider County: Service Six

    • Offers: Specialist support for self-harm (the Opal Project), online safety/gaming addiction (TARGET), and general therapy.

  • Kettering & Corby: Youth Works

    • Offers: The "Espresso Yourself" wellbeing café, counselling, and crisis support.

  • Daventry & South Northants: Time2Talk

    • Offers: Counselling, sexual health advice, and emotional support.

  • Oundle & Thrapston: CHAT Youth Counselling

    • Offers: Confidential 1-to-1 talking therapy.

🆘 Need help right now?

  • CAMHS Live: If you don't want to talk on the phone, you can text chat with an NHS mental health professional.

  • 24/7 Crisis Line: If you are in crisis, call 0800 170 7055 (available 24 hours a day for anyone in Northants).

  • Text a School Nurse: For 11-19 year olds who need advice on anything from bullying to health issues.

    • Text: 07507 329 600

🏃 Physical Health & Activities

Getting active is one of the quickest ways to boost your mood. Here is where to look in Northants:

  • Northamptonshire Sport: The go-to hub for finding local clubs, from boxing to yoga. Check their "Activity Finder" online to find clubs near you.

  • Leisure Passes: Many council leisure centers (like Corby International Pool or The Pemberton Centre) offer discounted gym and swim passes specifically for teens (often called "Junior" or "Teen" memberships).

  • Parkrun: Free 5k runs/walks every Saturday morning. It’s not a race; it’s a community event. Locations include The Racecourse (Northampton), Corby, Kettering, and Salcey Forest.

  • Activity on Referral: If you have a physical or mental health condition, your GP can refer you to a 12-week gym programme at a reduced cost to help you get started safely.

📲 Quick Save List

If you only save three contacts, make it these:

  1. The Lowdown (or your local REACH partner): For therapy and advice.

  2. NHS 111: For medical worries when it's not an emergency.

  3. Shout (Text 'SHOUT' to 85258): A national 24/7 text line if you need to talk silently.

💡 What to do next

Check your postcode.

If you aren't sure which service covers your specific town (e.g., if you live in a village between two towns), go to the Reach Collaborative Website and use their map to find your exact provider.
